Stellar Reporting [Mar. 10th, 2008|11:44 pm]
[Current Mood | discontent]

I have not taken the time to blog for a while, but today, i was inspired to by this inspirational piece from my favourite governmental newsletter online.

What an ingenious way to spice up some old news and my mundane college life:

'Hunt for JI fugitive Mas Selamat continues
By Satish Cheney, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 10 March 2008 1723 hrs

SINGAPORE: While the hunt for alleged Jemaah Islamiyah leader Mas Selamat Kastari continues, 40 illegal immigrants have been caught during the search efforts.'

Full Story (if you are interested):
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/334011/1/.html

I guess you really can't have your cake and eat it too. One can always count on them to turn the dark clouds silver from their own linings. Stretching these linings a bit thin, don't you think? On the other hand, I would be so grateful if someone could interpret the real lesson that the mysterious opening line conveys. My superficial mind can only pick up the fact that forty > one so, perhaps, discovering the existence of forty illegal immigrants is more praiseworthy than catching only one runaway. Yes, that does make sense, just like releasing information of Selamat Hari Raya's clothes six days after he escaped, along with this whole prison break drama. Maybe he is an illusionist. Maybe the guards felt sorry for the limping man and let him out. Maybe God was on his side after all. Maybe that's it, because God > gurkhas just like 40 >1... Oops, sorry, I forgot we weren't supposed to speculate. I'll stop here and leave you with some entertainment news.

'MM Lee says Mas Selamat's escape is a severe lesson on complacency'

To end on a more motivational note:

Dim sum at Lei Garden
Anything at Wonjo (NYC)
A digital SLR
Paprika :(:(:(
A bubble bath
Belts
A new blush brush
Warm(er) weather
No snow/ice/cold things descending on head from sky
Bangles/bracelets/other shiny types of things that jangle because rings on her fingers and bells on her toes, she will have music wherever she goes.
Longer hair
More Shanghainese summers
More Hong Kong holidays with Minzz and co.
Any type of holiday really
To be in Nipponland NOW
That woolly hat from Paul Smith that costs too much
Beautiful footwear of all sorts

I will resist his come-hither ways to make people like Wen Xian and Dhania happy.

Wow I really haven't updated in a long time. But whatever. I had a rather long and unproductive summer- which I mostly blame on that 2-month internship that paid and taught me just about nothing, but included a treasure hunt at the Chinese Gardens and a fishing contest at a fish farm, PLUS my first motorcycle ride :D

Trip to Bangkok: fun stuff. Great food, great company (GKS and Chanel, anyone?), and the most beautiful tuk-tuk in the world. Also, Jim Thompson and being within a 6 meter radius of the Princess of Thailand :):):) Too bad Daddy was mostly at work and I didn't get to see him much :( still cool though! It was a lovely trip.

Oh...update: Daddy moved. No more Bangkok Patio with the original most beautiful tuk-tuk in the world :( The new apartment only has one room and costs more, but I heard it's much nicer and in the shopping district. Still... :(

Lots more quality time back home with sisters, pappy, miscellaneous ilk and other crazies.

Then it was off to Hong Kong. Of course, I wasn't as well-prepared as I'd thought, misplacing my envelope of Hong Kong dollars somewhere in between sheets of stickers within the pages of a photo album, as well as tossing my make-up pouch into a pile of clothes and locating it only in the airport.

Apart from that little hitch, Hong Kong was wonderful. Char lot, Min-seok, Lan Kwai Fong: Lebanese hookah bars, ten minutes in Dragon Eye, Pauline....~~~. Also...the Peak (and the Tram!), neo prints, food, food, five schnauzers at Julien's-one called Isabelle (the prettiest, youngest and only one that didn't bark), 'The Bourne Ultimatum', Yung Kee's roasted goose and suckling pig, good food (sorry but Singapore still wins hands-down on that count for me), Tom, Paul, arcade games, bruises, Stars Avenue, Star Ferry, food, Jay, almost Macau (we nearly boarded the ferry there but was stopped because we didn't bring passports -.-),'The Secret' -___________-, dim sum, Boston-

no, wait, it was first San Francisco :D Seafood risotto and 'In n' Out' in 3 and a half hours, anyone? Still seems like a dream to me.

Ok, now, Boston. Nice weather, for once. I like my room in Carmy. Lots of familiar faces (from freshman year!), but no more Seo ho, Jae mo, Sang mo, Sang mok, Heena, Jae eun :( m well. My room is (almost) all set up now. This is a major Point of Pride pour moi.

Now to wash the crumpled pile of sheets lying on my bed. Ok, maybe later.

I may even post pictures later if I have the time to- ok, if I get round to doing it.

Byeee.

p.s. I miss you guys very much :( and Pappy :(:(:(

[Current Mood | blah]

It's already the 4th of April and it's snowing heavily again. Again, again, again.

Where is the sun :(

Anyway, I haven't updated for such a long time, but the snow inspired me to type.

So...Spring Break came and left, it was a very extended one for me, beginning with Dhan's arrival two weeks before mine started, then Wen and Aimee's coming a few days after, then Michelle, then my own break started and ended in New York with Michelle me and Min-seok. Great company, great food, and of course, a great sleeping setup :D

There were also midterms and papers that were done (not too well, I might add) amidst all that.

I also bought new clothes and shoes.

Exciting times.

Yeah, so my parents upped and left 3 Vanda Drive for a year, relegating it to secondary residence (but still primary for Tasha, Pappy, Yaya and Michelle.)

But I'm so bored now.

BU cruise party this Saturday, I will be the ugly foreigner on board. I have nothing to wear :( all these Koreans will be so dressy and I...will not be.

I will also be busy comparing in writing working rights for women in South Korea and Taiwan.

Not to mention the Summer Scholars Application.

Kopitiam dry run and real thing this weekend.

And my math midterm next Monday, followed too closely by the Chinese history midterm.

Oh, I got a Healthy Living room in Carmichael for my junior year.

I pee a lot nowadays.

I have so many things of substance to say.

"Meal Plan" [Jan. 26th, 2007|11:46 pm]
[Current Location |his room]

So the boy was off to Vermont for a weekend of skiing, and, expecting me to starve should I be left alone to scour for my own meals, he set out food and utensils to sustain me for the next two days along with this:

"MEAL PLAN

26.JAN.07 Fri-----------------------------------------------------

Dinner:
Rice+spicy sauce(in the fridge- keep it cold)+ tuna(box)+furigake(black bag next to the desk)+..? chopsticks are in the box (one corner, bottom.)
Miso soup

&&&&&&The rubber gloves on the bed are the ones for washing the spoons used for rice or etc (If something is used for corn flakes, wash it by hot water. That's good enough. ;))&&&&&&

27.JAN.07 Sat-----------------------------------------------------

Brunch: Dewick (with Udy, probably. Ask her.) or Cornflakes, hot chocolate(on the chair) in the room (more probable)

Dinner: Eating out.

28.JAN.07 Sun-----------------------------------------------------

Brunch: Dewick or room.

(I will probably be back.)"

On another note, I do realise that I haven't been updating even as winter break came and went, bringing in its wake the start of school complemented by the dreadful Bostonian cold that mocks me daily as I shiver my way around campus. Ah Xian flew to New York, where BBQ and I took the Lucky Star bus down to meet with her and Pedra Branca Nair. The trip was spontaneous, efficient and refreshing (read: disorganised, short and bitingly cold), but nonetheless immensely enjoyed (as usual) and completely worth the while and some. What would I do without all my lurverlies :)

I miss you guys ;p (if you still read this)

The weather really hasn't been kind at all, I was not exaggerating. Last night, it was -14deg F with wind chill. (Just in case, 32 deg F = 0 deg C).

I realise now that I didn't blog about my UConn trip like I'd planned to, and that none of that weekend's plans materialised. I went there on the spur of the moment to visit Dhan and Mel and it was great, apart from the fact that I lost my voice there only to recover it in a week. That was quite a nuisance.

On a happier note, I saw a beaver and wild deer and horses :):):)

The bus ride there was rather interesting too, certainly my most interesting bus ride ever thanks to this little African-American boy, the bus driver's son, whom I ended up babysitting for an hour or so. I was the only person on the bus to Storrs, UConn, and he asked me to sit with him and read to him (twice)! To cut the long story short, he was an adorable little boy, save for the fact that he cried into my lap and informed me that his boogers were coming out of his nose and used his chicken-covered tissue to clean them out. He also insisted that the Asian-American girl and African-American boy in his book were siblings, just because the other two white characters were siblings.

Colour-blindness is rare and extremely refreshing.

Also, I went to Chung Ki Wa with Dwaine, Dave and Udy last night and with 5 Koreans the night before. I am so thankful that we have that restaurant located just a stone's throw away from Tufts. I love my sun du bu ji gae (soft tofu soup). I had it (and kalbi) for both dinners. The only thing bad about the place is that I come out smelling like grilled cow.
